Well, I hope I haven’t put too much on my plate this month. It is Independence Day here in the United States. I’m a complete killjoy because I hate it; the fireworks scare my cats and my neighbours are idiots who light shit up while it is extreme fire season. The only saving grace is the fact that I get a three day weekend and it is Steve Roger’s birthday. Speaking of Marvel characters, I want to binge The Falcon and the Winter Soldier but at the same time, I need to finish about thirty-two different fics, at least only one of those is a Marvel fic.

I joined the 007 Fest again. Check it out for all things James Bond and beyond. Maybe I will end up finishing some of the things I started the last fest. I’m hoping to add more chapters to my Alec Trevelyan/Gareth Mallory fic “Can’t Even Sit Straight“. It’s not a new development for me to write something with romance, but I find as I write more fic, I tend to fade to black instead of writing the smut. However, I am certainly not going to go that route this time. There are two new fics I hope to publish for the fest. A sequel to “Phantom Handler” called “The Spectre of Time“. It involves Alec acclimating to all of the changes at MI6, negotiating his new relationship with both James and Q, and sorting out his impending retirement. I’m not sure where I want to go with it and if I want to make it a trilogy, still waiting for the next Bond movie so I’ll make a decision after that. And for Aro/Ace Characters day, a fic I meant to post last year featuring a demisexual but not sex averse Q, and the perils of sex pollen called “Required Forms”. It’s over halfway done, but as usual I am having a hard time transitioning from one scene to the next.

In the vein that I am always super into crossovers, I’d like to start a Bondlock fic. I’d like to finish it this month too but that is being way too optimistic for me. I do believe I posted a WIP Wednesday entry for it. The twist is that Q is a Moriarty and a Holmes by way of his mother being Sherlock’s aunt. My headcanon for this particular fic is that Q did not willingly join the British intelligence services. I have always thought that if this was the case, Bond would not tolerate the fact that Q wasn’t as ‘loyal’ to Queen and country as he is. So understandably, I am not going to pair him with James, though is that really a surprise?

I really need to post chapter two of my James Bond/Sam Winchester fic “Catch more Flies with Honey” because all it really needs is a paragraph or two and a little transitional polish and it will be good to go. For chapter three, I have to revisit some of Q’s dialogue in Skyfall about hacking, maybe watch all of his scenes in Spectre again, and engineer a 007 style action/escape scene. I am wondering if I can pull this off… My 00Q/Sam fic “Context is Key” is still sitting on the back burner. I don’t want to say I’ve lost interest in it; it’s more as if it is not a high priority compared to other things I want to finish. If you haven’t read some of my previous blog posts, I posted two more Sam/Alec and Sam/M stories. They are part of my Sam Snippets so they come with the warning that they ‘may be expanded upon’ but it’s not a guarantee.

So I’m going to partially switch gears here for a moment and continue with another fic device for my Sailing Ship Sam Winchester series. Sometimes it’s necessary to the narrative that Sam takes up a new name. I try to keep his first name whenever possible but here a few that last names Sam prefers when he can afford to pick something familiar. Miller is modified from Jodi Mills, since I consider her one of few positive female influences in his life. Murphy after Pastor Jim, because how cool would it have been if he had lived? I think he would have been an awesome foster parent and I have dreams of him literally kidnapping Sam one of the few times John left Sam with him. Then there would be the cliché of the fridged woman – Jess. Though I do have some reservations only because I think Sam would feel rather guilt-stricken to change his name to Moore. However, one of my favourites is Wyatt, after the teacher that encouraged him to do his own thing. That scene really stuck with me only because I think it was the first time an authority figure in Sam’s life told him he could do what he wanted and not what his family had planned for him.

You’ll almost never see me use Campbell or Singer as an alias for two reasons. The first being that, I absolutely loathed Sam’s namesake, aka his grandfather and I never did like Bobby’s attitude towards Sam, the second being that both names are easily connected to Sam. I’ll probably also never use any of the classic rock aliases they use on the show only because Sam would know his associates could trace him that way. I think since he such a bookworm Sam would use names from classic literature as his go to pseudonyms.

The only time I really change Sam’s first name is when it’s hard to distinguish him from another well known “Sam” character in whatever other fandom I am crossing over with. His middle name is William and that is my default. It’s convenient because it’s also super common and still provides a level of anonymity should he be on the lam. I think using anything other than any of his given names ventures too close to ‘original character’ territory.

So I think that is about all for now. Wishing everyone and myself success in crushing their WIPs, until next time y’all!
